ARCHIVE for HMD2010: The Legacy of Hope
The case studies and related education resources for HMD2010, The Legacy of Hope, have been archived. The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust is currently focusing on the theme for this year, Speak Up, Speak Out.
HMD 2010 ICT Task (Secondary)
This task uses the Hugo Gryn, Denise Affonço and the Mosaic of Victims case studies.
Remind the students how ICT works as a powerful tool for getting messages across to groups and individuals.
Challenge them to use their own ICT skills to join the HMD 2010 Legacy of Hope
Share the story of Hugo Gryn and explain that he worked in the media, using film and radio to communicate his messages.
Discuss how ICT is always developing and there are now quick and excellent ways to share information. Ask students to tell you which ICT tools work best for them.
Give the students a choice of tasks. They may work alone or in small groups. If they work in a group they must write a short report at the end of the task showing how they divided up the work e.g. who did the research, the art work, the text, the web design.
Using either the Hugo Gryn, Denise Affonço and the Mosaic of Victims case studies case studies and the HMD 2010 theme paper students should design and build an interactive website page or pages that can be published on the school intranet. The page should tell the audience about the aims of Holocaust Memorial Day, present a miniature case study and where possible a hyperlink to the chosen case study on the HMD website.
Students should demonstrate that they have considered a wide audience, and the page should be of interest to students, their parents, school governors and the local community.
Or
Using the same case studies, create a power-point which could be shown at a local youth group or in an assembly on Holocaust Memorial Day.
Then
Use the results of the tasks to tell the whole school/college community about The Legacy of Hope.
